PinkyMaggie

A blog for me to share my opinions, reviews, and other fun stuff!

Back in early 2015, I made a Lolita Nitpick post in which I expressed certain dresses (mainly AP ones) I could not bring myself to appreciate. These dresses at the time included the entire Wonder Cookie and Little Bear's Cafe series, Decoration Dream in yellow and sax, the Milky Planet re-release, and Whip Magic.

Since making that post, I have changed in many ways, such as growing fonder of older AP prints, with Little Bear's Cafe in Brown and Whip Magic in White being wanted dresses. Even the Milky Planet re-released has gotten a new bit of respect from me as I really like the pink colorway. The only dress I can live without is Decoration Dream in that I'm not too keen on the print itself.

Now that I got that all cleared, it's time to hear about my current nitpicks!~

Pretty much all of the classic themed prints by Angelic Pretty in 2015 really made me start worrying about the future of the brand. I've always since AP as an escape from most of the mature-like brands such as Innocent World and Victorian Maiden, so when they started releasing prints that if I wasn't told that they were from AP, I would have thought it was either one of those classic lolita brands or even a Taobao one! I'm not against classic lolita in anyway, as I've seen many people pull it off, but it's sad to see one of the most prominent sweet lolita brands having to release more toned down and maturer print themes.

Going back to older AP prints, I can never see an appeal to this one particular lucky pack release; that being "A La Carte Tea Time". Now, I've giving many dresses a chance the past few months, but this print is disgusting in my opinion. It all comes down to the nasty shade of green on the print which is a total turn off for me. AP has released dresses with a similar shade of green, such as the bows on Marshmallow Bunny, but because this is a sweets themed print, all I can think of when looking at it is moldy donuts.

Finally, a print soon to be released: Baked Sweets Parade! To be totally honest, I really like this print and donuts just happen to be one of my favorite desserts! Compared to the donuts from A La Carte Tea Time, these actually look edible in my opinion. The ONLY thing stopping me from wanting this dress are the white donuts mainly because they look very "clipartish" and ruins the whole composition of the print. Now in the pink colorway, it looks less noticeable, but it might be because of the lighting in the photo, but the white donuts in the mint colorway stand out way too much. A simple fix of turning the icing from white to pink would make this dress an automatic dream dress!

Well there ends my small list of nitpicks at the moment, nothing too great as I've been accepting a lot more prints! Let see what Angelic Pretty has to offer this year and I'll make sure to tell you all about it!~

With old-school lolita being one of my favorite "sub-styles" right behind sweet, I decided to post my favorite old-school AP dresses! Being someone who is mainly a print fanatic, all of the following dresses will have a print, so it doesn't follow the typical plain dress with lace. I'll be going in order per year just to make it a bit organized. Now...let's start!~

Ballerina Print (Swan Lake) (2005): This dress was a collaboration with artist Imai Kira (which her art is posted all over my blog). This isn't on the sweeter side, but it has that key old-school element of black and white to it. It's simply incredibly beautiful (although I could never wear it since I'm on the taller side).

Carousel (2006): I should say right now that I'm a huge fan of carousel themed prints and with this dress being the first from AP to use it, it's one of my favorites! My personal favorite colorway is the sax blue/pink one. It came in a large variety of colorways to chose from, so it can suit anyone's interests!

Twinkle Mermaid (2006): The original marine print (and my favorite, too)! With the recent releases of Dream Marine and Marine Kingdom, it's the perfect time to add this particular print with also happens to be one of my favorite old-school AP dresses. It's simple in design, yet also very elegant. This dress also happens to be designed by Imai Kira as well!

Toy Parade (2007): 2007 is really the most recent I'll go, so I saved the best for last...Toy Parade!!~ My first ever brand dress and one of my dream dresses. I own the exact one in black (as shown in the picture) and it's just as beautiful! I consider it the first full blown sweet print AP has ever released. It was also released in 2012 with two more colorways and cuts.

So this concludes my favorite old Angelic Pretty dresses. I'm so sorry if they weren't old enough (to me and my age they seem fairly old). Now that I've shared mine, what are your favorite old-school dresses (from any brand)?~

Nitpicks in lolita can be pretty weird depending on well...what the person is nitpicky about. I feel like my personal nitpicks are odd, especially since I am a sweet lolita.

*Just a note stating that these are all personal opinions and although I like the following dresses/prints great on others, I would never personally wear them*

Okay! I'll be using Angelic Pretty dresses for this since I don't want to be bias towards other brands (expect AP to appear often on this blog). Now...let's start!~

Wonder Cookie : I have no clue why I really don't like this print. Maybe it's the mix of all the colors (especially in the yellow colorway) that gives me a bad vibe. It could also be the colors of the buttons on the OP which sets me off as well. I didn't put a particular cut or colorway from the series I dislike since I don't like the series in general.

Little Bear's Cafe : Another series which I can't bring myself to like. This is more for the print itself than the cut. I happen to be really nitpicky about teddy bears on prints. 99% of the time, I really don't like them. Surprisingly, I love teddy bear bags in lolita. Anyways, I feel Little Bear's Cafe in green is by far the worst colorway. Everything about it is a huge turn off for me.

Decoration Dream in Yellow/Sax : I was about to put the entire series on here, but I feel that the pink and black colorways made the print more appealing to me. Yellow and sax blue tend to be the last colorways I look for when searching for dream dresses. However, this particular print with these colors doesn't match in my eyes at all.

Milky Planet (2013 re-release) OP, JSK: It's weird having to put my dream print in here, but this is the (horrible) re-release AP came out with. I dislike the OP overall in all colorways. But what gets me the most is the sax blue in every cut. It's so bright and I feel as though it would be super hard to coordinate (much like Squirrel Party by Bodyline) The pastel sax blue of the original was much more appealing to the eye.

Whip Magic (AKA Radioactive Cupcakes) : I just had to save the *cough* best *cough* for last. I don't know if this would even be a nitpick since everyone seems to hate this series. I feel that it's the neon colors added with AP's signature pastel colors that sets it off. It does have one benefit, though; it's almost always super cheap secondhand.

So this concludes my nitpicks and I hope no gets offend if your dream dress is on here. Like I previously stated, it is my opinion and it's mainly just dresses that while they would look good on others, it's just not right for me.
